180 million euros extra for Leo Messi

Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccitini is the best player in the history of FC Barcelona. The player has scored the highest number of goals for the team (447) and the League (more than 300), making the Argentinian star the club's crowning glory. It is for this reason that the organization is already preparing his final renewal: a deal set to cost the club 180 million euros.

The contract, which has been put together by the club's sporting board of directors - together with the green light from the finance and marketing departments –extends Messi's current contract by an additional four years: as far as 2022.  The Rosario genius's current contract comes to an end on the 30th of June 2018, and Barça wants to renew it by summer of 2017 at the latest. 

The Messi familyare not in any rush, as their current contract guarantees them the best salary in the history of world football: the player is due to receive 39.8 million euros gross at the end of the season. This is the amount that Barça must pay to maintain the player, tax included. Messi's net earning hover arund 20-22 million euros.

Final salary to approach 50 'kilos'

The forward's renewal as far as 2022 involves an additional payout of 40 million euros per year by way of a salary – as a minimum. In fact, this year's 39.8 million euros constitute the first phase of a staggered salary that increases with every passing year. In 2022, the figure could reach 50 million euros gross, negotiation sources have reported to GOL.

This situation, as it was anticipated by former economic vice-president, Javier Faus, set alarm bells ringing in the financial sector, which is entangled in a constant battle with the club's sporting department. In addition to Messi's incredible salary, there is also the matter of the approaching renewals for Neymar, Busquets and Luis Suárez.
